What Is the Low-End Guide?
You have heard of high-end tourism — luxury cruises, six-star hotels, seven-star restaurants, casinos and big game safaris. The Low-End Guide is not that. It is a directory of cheap travel, budget accommodation, and outdoor camp sites across Zimbabwe for people who want to see the outdoors for real.
The directory covers everyday Zimbabwean travel: the families who car-pool to get out of town, backpackers who bring their own bottled water, and anyone who sleeps in the back of a car to make the trip possible. The goal is the same as it was in 2013 — get more locals into Zimbabwe’s outdoors by making budget stays easy to find.
Every location on this site must offer at least one accommodation option at US$20 per night or less. A place may also have more expensive rooms or high-end facilities, but affordable access is the entry requirement — no exceptions.

How It Started
The Low-End Guide was first conceived in 2013, and the idea started with the Mountain Club of Zimbabwe. It was simple: promote domestic tourism by creating a shared, searchable database of budget accommodation — cheap places to stay across Zimbabwe’s ten provinces, from city lodges to outdoor camp sites in the wild.
“80 percent of all PR is internal PR. If Zimbabweans speak well of travel in Zimbabwe, it promotes Zimbabwean travel — including by high-end foreign visitors.”
The goal was always to create something Zimbabwean, for Zimbabweans, hosted on a platform that everyday people could find.
How to Participate
The Low-End Guide is an initiative to assist the Zimbabwean community to appreciate Zimbabwe — built by the community, for the community. There are several ways to get involved:
- Submit a location. Know a place that qualifies? Send the details — name, contact person(s), phone numbers, how to get there, what to expect, what to do on arrival — to the Guide team.
- List your place. Location owners who offer at least one option at US$20 per night or less can ask to be added — send the details and we will put the place on the map.
- Send feedback. Stayed somewhere? Let us know about your experience. Ratings and reviews help keep the database honest and useful.
Guiding Principles
Affordability First
The US$20/night qualification is non-negotiable. This ensures the guide serves the people who need it most.
Direct Contact Details
Every listing carries a named contact person, a phone number, and a “last updated” date, so you can call ahead and check for yourself. Listings are not inspected or verified — prices and conditions change, so always confirm before you travel.
Domestic First
Built for Zimbabweans. International tourism follows, but internal travel is the foundation.
